LOCAL Snooker and Billiards ace Moh Loon Hong has decided to retire from the national team while his son Moh Keen Ho, a former Asian junior under-21snooker champion, and daughter Mary Moh Chaw Teng could follow suit as the trio are unhappy over the local body’s alleged lackadaisical attitude in managing their careers.

The Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation’s (MSBF) has decided the trio should concentrate on training instead of competing abroad and this has not gone down well with the players.

Moh Loon Hong, a billiards silver medallist in last year’s Korat Sea Games, has informed the federation (MSBF) about his retirement while his children have not picked up their cues for almost 3 weeks.

The 53 year old is upset as he was not allowed to compete in the Malaysian qualifiers of last month’s Asian Nine-Ball Tour while Moh Keen Ho was barred from competing in the SangSom SIX RED BALLS INTERNATIONAL PRO-AM INVITATIONAL SNOOKER TOURNAMENT (8th July 2008) event in Bangkok , Montien Riverside Hotel.

Moh Loon Hong said they are fed-up with the federation’s (MSBF) attitude in managing them for tournaments.
“What is the point of training when there is no coach to guide us on the table. We want to compete overseas as its the only way to gain experience,” said Moh Loon Hong yesterday.

“Our decision is nothing to do with money. We want to ply our skills overseas as there are not enough local tournaments.

“This has always been the case with the federation(MSBF). They deny us opportunities to improve but when we voice them out, we end up getting suspended. I don’t really care now.”

He said it would be better for his children to quit the national team as they can earn a better living by competing overseas on their own accord.

It will be a big loss to the country if the Moh family, especially Keen Ho, abandon the national squad.

Moh Keen Ho, age-22, is the most outstanding among the trio. His best achievement to date was winning the Snooker Mens Singles Gold Medal in the Korat Sea Games and also finishing 7th in the World Junior under 21 Snooker Championship meet, both last year.

Last month, the former professional player was the losing finalist in the Singapore Hainsworth Invitational Snooker Tournament .

About damn time in my opinion. The current Malaysian players are barely exposed to any competitions abroad. Say less than 5 times in a year.

The only thing the MSBF is encouraging is a whole lot of gambling for players trying to make ends meet and creating thousands of jaguh “kampung”. Without exposure I just don’t see our Malaysian players gaining any forward movement in the international scene.

The Taiwanese & Filipinos have their massive crop of pool players, China has wenbo and junhui, Thais had wattana and now supoj saenla. But where are we? I’m not saying we are inferior to them, but without exposure, the fact will be they are much more highly experienced than us.

i’ve been in msian snooker scene for more than 10 years.. pool for around 4-5 years… what did i see? it’s nothing, since the 80’s era.. other asian countries still will respect us, Malaysia snooker player.. but now, they all thought we not qualify enough to play with them..
and now, even some asian countries barred our msian player from competing ( you all admin should know this n reason behind this, as it’s not coz our player too lousy )
others than the players own discipline which we all also agreed, not that good… the federation should have done something as in groom them into a better person themselves..
and after since i in china here, i saw how dedicated the player especially the china national back up player when they train.. no doubt, china federation put alot of effort in grooming their young player because of their rising star, Ding jun hui.
But, from what i see and my opinion… our player especially Hoo chai, can be world beater, i seen and knew quite alot of the china national player, others than ding jun hui, the rest of their team, we msian have equal chance to be on par with them.. but all these not just depends on our federation la, as he himself need to improve especially discipline wise and mental strength..
lai chee wei also one of it.. ah wei mental strength need to improve tremendously if he want to be world beater..
ops, guess i talk too much… this is an open forum and our federation might frequently check on it.. haha
well, i still got alot more to talk n say when the topic come to snooker..
as the team here, especially the admin… PASSION for the Cue Sports above personal interest…
correct me if i wrong.. n debate with me if u have any doubt…
haha…

i totally agree,

i dont really like the look of our previous national player. One look knows like a drug addict, samseng type. I dont feel proud at all for that.

seriously, the MSBF should get them an image consultant or educate them abit mentally and outlook. somehow, we cant blame everything on MSBF, some are just simple common sense, somethings are not right like excessive gambling, alcholic, drugaholic, rudeness and this are all personal common sense. so u either have it or u dont!

Remember respect cant be bought, it has to be earn. if u dont respect yrself, dont expect people to.
