Roy was Interviewed recently after winning the national snooker championship 2009 by MR. Chris Chan :
Chris : Congratulations Rory .
Rory : Thank You Chris
Chris : How do you feel now ?
Rory : Very happy !
Chris : I saw you on the phone straight after the final . who did you call ?
Rory : My Dad. He was shouting here and there telling everyone his son did it !
Chris : Any special thanks to anyone.
Rory : Definitely ! First of all, i would like to thank to all my supporters (originalomin) who supported me all the while . Without all of you , i will never think of winning this major title at all . Also, i would like to thank Miss Joanne Lee who trained me on my mental toughness and was there with me every minute of the tournament. Lastly, not to forget, i would like to thank Originalmin for giving me the opportunity to platform to shine at this tournament.
Chris : Have you done any preparation for this tournament ?
Rory : Yes , Definitely ! I trained more than 8 hours a day on the table for the past 6 months while being guided by my manager/trainer ( J.H.Leong). Not only that, he also instructed me to speak English and watch snooker again and again, especially John Higgins’s matches !
Chris : And that is hard work i assume ?
Rory : Yes, even at times when i wasn’t performing well and start to give all sorts of excuses. He (JH) will push me to practice but i understand that what he did was all for my own good.
Chris : So What is your next target after winning the National Snooker Championship ?
Rory : Sea Games Snooker Singles Gold Medal in December. I am felling blessed as MSBF has included me in this year’s SEA Games squad. Thank you MSBF, especially Mr. Melvin Chia and Mr. Iskandar Perwira, who gave me a chance to represent Malaysia again. i will try to defend our SEA Games gold medal in snooker. Not only that but with the support of the MSBF, i hope to be able to break through into the regional rankings and take Malaysian snooker to the next level. We have Sam Chong and Moh Keen Hoo to make Malaysia proud and i hope to take Malaysia snooker to the next level of success. it has been many years since Malaysia won an Asian Gold medal and established a number 1 ranking region. From there, i hope to break into the professional ranks and bring Malaysian snooker the way James Wattana has done it for Thailand and the same way Marco Fu and Ding Jun Hui has develop snooker in Hong Kong/China.
Chris : When will you start your training for SEA Games ?
Rory : It has already started and to be honest i’ve only rested 1 day after the National Snooker Championship.
Chris : And how do you aim to Accomplish your hopes and ambitions ?
Rory : With the support of MSBF, i hope i can be expose to more international tournaments and establish a respectable ranking at the world-ranking events. For example, China and Hong Kong selected Marco Fu and Ding Jun Hui to represent their countries to bring success to the sport. i would hope that MSBF would do the same for me since i am only 21 and i believe i have more opportunities to come. Ronnie O’Sullivan became the oldest World Champion at the age of 33 and i still have 12 years before i reach his age.
Chris : Thank you Rory for sparing some time for this interview and i wish you good luck and all the best in the future.
