Benjamin Lee, Malaysia’s second ranked national snooker player, racked up a convincing victory over Alvin Chin by winning four frames to one in the on-going One Class Open Snooker Championship in Petaling Jaya. With the win, Benjamin is through to the quarter-finals where he faces Mohd Redza.Benjamin had been out of touch with snooker for almost a year after making a switch to playing pool.
However, he squeezed in two weeks of training to meet the demands of the tournament.
It was not enough though as he looked jaded and lacked the sharpness based on his game today.
When asked to comment on his next assignment against Mohd Redza, he said: “I am not worried who I play against, for me its just about playing the game, although I haven’t trained for a year but I believe I still have the touch. I am always ready for any snooker tournaments”.
Should Benjamin beat Mohd Redza, he is expected to meet Lai Chee Wei in the semi-finals. Chee Wei chalked up a convincing four frames to nothing victory over K.L Tan in the last 16 and looks to steamroll his opponents.
Head-to-head, Benjamin has has a 2-1 advantage over Chee Wei in their three meetings thus far.
If the clash materialises, Benjamin rated Chee Wei as great player. “I can see he has improved tremendously in recent times and has the talent to go very far.
Currently, I’ll say he is better than me. We’ll wait and see what happens.”
