MOH KEEN HO |
THE National Sports Council Malaysia (NSC) regards Moh Keen Hoo as the ’special son of Malaysian snooker’ and it hopes the player will not make a mistake by quitting the national team.
NSC director Datul Zolkples Embong said the council has informed the Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF) to discuss with Moh Keen Hoo why he is considering quitting the national team.
“Moh Keen Hoo is a great player who has made Malaysia proud in many events and I want the MSBF to look into this matter seriously,” said Zolkples yesterday.
“However, I do agree with MSBF president Datuk W.Y. Chin that we should not compromise. We have a special programme for Moh Keen Ho, based on the recommendations of the MSBF, and he will be exposed to events accordingly.”
On Monday, Moh Loon Hong said he wanted to retire from the national team while his son Moh Keen Ho and daughter Moh Chaw Theng were considering following him as they are unhappy with the way the federation is handling their respective careers.
“We are always open when it comes to funding athletes for international competitions. For the MSBF case, they are always welcome to speak to us if they need financial support to send their athletes, especially Moh Keen Ho, to events,” he said.
Among the big tournaments singled out for Moh Keen Ho, if he decides not to quit, is the World Championships in Austria next month.
An official of MSBF said an inquiry will be held by the end of the week to investigate the matter further.
“We need to investigate what’s really wrong and Moh Loon Hong, Moh Keen Ho and Mary Moh Chaw Teng will be interviewed before further action is taken,” the official said.
Meanwhile, former national pool player Patrick Ooi Fook Yuen hopes the MSBF will not take any drastic action against the trio.
Patrick Ooi Fook Yuen, who won several medals in the Sea Games, was suspended for an indefinite period last December for allegedly walking out of the Korat Sea Games programme.
“I walked out because the federation did not want to release me for several tournaments in Indonesia,” said Patrick Ooi, the 2005 national snooker champion, who presently works as a welder in Genting Highlands.
“They did not call for an inquiry when they imposed the ban on me. MSBF only informed me verbally about the ban, which they claim is world-wide.”
